Every year, the Odyssey Association organizes events to raise funds for breast cancer research. This year for these 20 years, 10 races are on the programme. Spread throughout the year, some of them have already taken place: Val d’Isere, Nantes, Toulouse, Chambery, Bayonne and Dijon.

This weekend, the race took place in the capital (10 km in the Parc de Vincennes), and thousands of runners gathered. They were 34,000. Some are face-to-face, others online. Thanks to donations, Odyssey Paris 2022 has collected €605,000. This is a new record. Last year, 20,000 participants traveled 116,500 kilometers and collected €507,044 in donations.

The association is organizing two more competitions this year: Cannes on October 23 and Reunion on November 5 and 6.

Sport and breast cancer

Breast cancer research is an important cause. Every year the disease affects 60,000 women and 12,000 die. Breast cancer research is also responsible if the number of screenings has increased and the numbers have decreased.

Exercise can be a great aid to healing. The most obvious example is that of Anas Kumener, who has a string of race podiums at different distances. A higher level, of course, is not mandatory. Institut Curie suggests that “the most active women have a 20% lower risk of developing breast cancer than the least active women.” It also states that 3 hours of physical activity per week reduces recurrence risk by 20%. It rises to 50% above 9 p.m.
